Former Arsenal man reveals how the Gunners missed out on three top-class talents

Jadon Sancho-Borussia Dortmund

Arsenal’s former head of youth recruitment Steve Morrow has revealed that the Gunners missed out on signing talented young players like Jadon Sancho, Christian Pulisic and Jude Bellingham in recent years.

Sancho joined Borussia Dortmund from Manchester City and he has established himself as one of the most exciting young players in European football right now.

The player was heavily linked with a move back to England with Manchester United keen on him an Arsenal will be regretting their inability to sign him when they had the chance.

Apparently the London club were very very close to signing the former Manchester City winger but his family felt that a move to Germany would be a better opportunity for the player.

Morrow said: “Jadon felt that his future was away from Manchester and we were very, very close to signing him. But the family felt at the time that the best opportunity for him was at Dortmund and off he went.”

Another Borussia Dortmund player Jude Bellingham was on Arsenal’s radar and the London club were quite close to luring him to London Colney.

Meanwhile Chelsea winger Christian Pulisic could have joined the Gunners as well and he even visited London Colney as a 14-year-old.

Back then the winger struggled with his physicality and the Gunners opted to pass on him.

Later on the American international went to Germany and impressed with Borussia Dortmund before securing his move to Chelsea.

“Through our connections in the States, Christian was one that I actually had over at London Colney as a 14-year-old,” Morrow said.

“He came in and did quite well. But he was small and underdeveloped physically when he came to us.

“I did see his potential but he was certainly behind physically in terms of the same age group with our boys.

“I wanted to bring him back again. But it just didn’t work out and he went to Germany unfortunately.”
