Lothar Matthaus confirms Hansi Flick is leaving Bayern Munich this summer

Hans-Dieter Flick - Bayern's development has been crazy

Bayern Munich manager Hansi Flick has been linked with a move away from the German club this summer.

He is in line to replace Joachim Low as the national team manager after the Euros.

German legend Lothar Matthaus has now confirmed that Flick has managed his last Champions League game with Bayern Munich, and he will join up the German national team in the summer.

Bayern Munich were eliminated by PSG from the Champions League quarter-finals earlier tonight.

Matthaus said: “That was Hansi Flick’s last Champions League game as coach of FC Bayern. He is the first choice at the DFB to succeed Joachim Löw. He will accept the offer in the summer.”

There have been several rumours about how unhappy Flick has been at the Bavarian club this season. He has had a difference of opinion with club director Hasan Salihamidzic regarding the direction the club are heading in and the transfer plans for the summer.

Flick apparently wants more control when it comes to transfer decisions, and the power struggle has been a significant issue between the manager and the club director.

It seems that the civil war between the big egos at Bayern will force Flick out of the club this summer.

The German manager has won every trophy with Bayern Munich, and his departure will come as a significant blow to the Bavarian giants.

It will be interesting to see who comes in as the replacement this summer. RB Leipzig manager Julian Nagelsmann has been linked with the Bayern job in recent months, and it will be interesting to see where he ends up.

Lotthar Matthäus on Sky: "Hansi Flick has an offer to become Germany boss. Bayern Munich have already been thinking about Julian Nagelsmann as his successor. The Bundesliga game against Augsuburg will be his last as Bayern coach."
