Van der Sar open to leading Manchester United
Manchester United executive Ed Woodward is set to leave the club at the end of this year; former goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar has been linked as a potential replacement.
The Dutchman has done an excellent job at Ajax in an administrative role, and he could be a perfect appointment for the Premier League side.
Van der Sar knows the club well, and he will be able to form a bond with the fan base. Woodward has failed to develop a positive relationship with the fans during his time at the club, and he has been heavily criticized for his way of running the club over the last few seasons.
The former Manchester United goalkeeper has now revealed that he would be open to taking up the role at Old Trafford.
Van der Sar claims that he wouldn’t be able to work at clubs where he is not emotionally attached, and therefore he could only work for Ajax and Manchester United.
He said: “The pressure is different, and I won’t work at a club where I don’t have a feeling. I could only do this for Ajax or United. I would not work for any other clubs. I am really happy with how we have [developed] Ajax in the last couple of years. We had ambitions 10 years ago to reach the top of Europe. We have reached that. We had to work hard, we don’t have a rich owner, and the government didn’t help us.”
Ajax are one of the best-run clubs globally, and they have shown sustainable growth over the years.
On the other hand, Manchester United have been mismanaged for years, and they could certainly use a more responsible leadership at the helm.
Three Potential replacements for Pogba
In other news, Manchester United are prepared to offer a bumper new deal to Paul Pogba; however, the 28-year-old could be sold if he refuses to sign an extension this summer.
Apparently, the Red Devils have already drawn up a list of potential replacements, including Declan Rice, Saul Niguez and Wilfred Ndidi.
The World Cup winner has been linked with a return to Juventus in recent months, and it will be interesting to see if he is willing to commit his long term future to the Premier League club in the coming weeks.
