The French forward has been the saving grace for Real Madrid since Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure.
Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema has opened about how he upped his game since Cristiano Ronaldo left the club.
The Portuguese ace left Bernabeu to join Juventus in 2018 and ever since then Madrid’s attack has been the same.
Luckily, Los Blancos have been able to witness the greatness of Benzema, whose goal-scoring abilities were previously overshadowed due to the presence of Ronaldo.
Now, the Frenchman explains that he had to adapt to a newer role to fill the void left by the Portuguese attacker.
Benzema said, “Cristiano’s departure allowed me to play a different role. He scored 50 goals every year and you had to adapt to his game. He is one of the best in the world and I was happy by his side.”
Benzema’s upturn in form, perhaps, coincided with Ronaldo’s exit as the former Lyon man racked up more than twenty goals in the following two seasons, thus reaffirming this status as one of the best centre-forwards
The 33-year-old has scored 12 goals in 21 appearances and he is also Madrid’s top scorer at the moment.
Benzema’s burden has increased over the last two seasons, with Madrid failing to bring in a proper backup to him. Mariano Diaz has been frozen out of the squad while Luka Jovic, who was signed in the summer of 2019, failed to live up to his expectations and the Serbian has been loaned back to Frankfurt.
