Arsenal offered Chelsea winger Willian £250,000-a-week contract

Arsenal planning to sign the Chelsea winger Willian this summer

Arsenal were planning to sign the Chelsea winger Willian this summer.

According to reports, the Gunners were preparing a massive contract offer for the Brazilian before the Coronavirus crisis.

Willian is a free agent at the end of this season and Arsenal were looking to offer him a £250,000-a-week contract in order to sign him.

It will be interesting to see what happens now. The current health crisis has affected most clubs financially and Arsenal might not be able to offer the same money to Willian anymore.

The Gunners have missed out on match day revenue and they are unlikely to be in the European competitions next season either.

They will lose out on significant revenues because of that and the Willian wages are likely to be unaffordable this summer. Unless ofcourse the Gunners manage to cash in on some of their high earners like Mesut Ozil, whose £350,000-a-week deal also expires next summer.

The German has been the highest earner at the club for a while now but his contributions on the pitch have been negligible.

Arsenal have also yet to agree a new deal with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, whose current contract which is worth £200,000 a week is due to expire in a year.

It will be interesting to see where Willian ends up. Despite being 31, the Brazilian is still a top player and he showed his quality against Manchester City last night.

His technical ability and experience proved to be vital as Lampard’s side clinched a vital 2-1 win at home.

Willian could have a similar impact at the Emirates as well if he joins.

Arsenal are in desperate need of a quality creator like Willian right now. Someone like him would boost the whole side and help Arteta.
