Aston Villa 1-4 Liverpool: Mane, Salah earn win against Villa’s academy team

Liverpool picked up a 4-1 win over Aston Villa in the third round of the FA Cup earlier tonight.

Sadio Mane scored the opening goal of the game in the first 5 minutes after a fantastic cross from Curtis Jones. The Senegalese international headed in from close range to give Liverpool their lead.

Aston Villa were forced to field their Academy players after a significant COVID outbreak earlier and the kids did not disappoint.

The home side did extremely well after going down to an early goal from Sadio Mane and they got back into the game through Louie  Barry on the 41st minute.

The former Barcelona youngster did well to get behind Rhys Williams and slotted the ball past the Liverpool keeper.

Liverpool struggled to breakdown the Aston Villa defence after their opening goal and Jurgen Klopp decided to bring on Thiago Alcantara to add more creativity to his side.

The Spanish midfielder made an instant impact and helped the Reds carve out clear cut chances in the second half.

Gini Wijnaldum gave Liverpool the lead once again around the hour mark and the Reds followed it up with two more goals in quick succession from Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah.

Liverpool are now through to the fourth round of the FA Cup and they will be hoping to go all the way in the competition this season.

Jurgen Klopp is yet to win a domestic Cup competition during his time at Liverpool and he will be hoping to end that drought this year.

Liverpool take on Manchester United in their next game and Klopp will be hoping that tonight’s win has given the players some much needed confidence ahead of a crucial Premier League game.
