Atletico 3-0 Mallorca: Atletico register another win

Morata scored the only goal for Atletico

Atletico Madrid picked up an impressive 3-0 home win over Mallorca in La Liga last night.

The home side took the lead through Alvaro Morata on the 29th minute. The Spaniard scored from the spot. He doubled his side’s advantage in the first half stoppage time.

Koke wrapped up the scoring on the 79th minute with the third goal of the game.

Atletico Madrid are now third in the table, eight points behind second placed Barcelona. Real Madrid are on top of the table with 74 points.

It will be interesting to see if Barcelona manage to close the gap with Los Blancos before the end of the season.

As for Atletico, they know the title race is beyond them and they will be looking to book their place in the Champions League group stages with a strong finish to the season.

They are just five points ahead of Sevilla, who have a game in hand. Atletico cannot afford to slip up now.

Diego Simeone will be happy with his team’s performance against Mallorca and he will be hoping for more of the same in the upcoming matches.

Prior to the lockdown, Atletico picked up some form and they have carried that momentum into the post-lockdown period as well.

The Spanish outfit have been in impressive form since the restart and they will be looking to make their mark in Europe when the Champions League restarts.

They have already eliminated the holders Liverpool and Simeone will be hoping to go all the way this time.
