Bayern 1-1 Werder: Coman’s equaliser helps Bayern avoid narrow defeat

Kingsley Coman scored first goal for Bayern

Bayern have been held to a draw at home by Werder Bremen.

Bayern Munich have shared points after drawing 1-1 against Werder Bremen, with Kingsley Coman netting the equaliser in the second half.

The hosts dominated the game from the off but it was Werder Bremen who had the first sight at goal after Manuel Neuer was forced a double save in the 16th minute.

Bremen drew first blood on the brink of the half time when Maximilian Eggestein’s strike beat past Manuel Neuer.

Bayern were desperate for the equaliser in the second half and they found it with the help of Kingsley Coman, who scored a header in the 62nd minute.

The hosts went in search of a winner but Bremen were equally adept at preventing the chances.

However, Bayern had one fine opportunity to turn the tide around but Choupo Moting fired his shot above the crossbar after being picked out by Leroy Sane.

Robert Lewandowski had a quiet game but wingers Coman and Douglas Costa were impressive in the draw. Lucas Hernandez was taken off early in the first half due to an injury and replaced by Leon Goretzka.

Hansi Flick’s men were handed their first draw of the season, although they are still the table toppers of Bundesliga.

Flick, who was in charge of his 50th game with Bayern, offered his thoughts on the draw.

“Bremen did very well today and didn’t give us much space. We weren’t quite in the game as we wanted to. We aren’t able to create many chances as we’re used to. We just have to be satisfied with the draw today.

“In the second half, the team tried everything. They fought to avoid a defeat. In the end Bremen did well and deservedly got a point.”
