Benevento 0-2 Milan: Milan’s fairy tale continues despite Tonali red card

Milan picked up a comfortable win against Benevento despite playing with 10 men in the second half.

AC Milan have continued their impressive run in Serie A following the 2-0 win against Benevento away although Sandro Tonali was sent off in the first half.

Milan took the lead inside the first quarter after a clumsy defensive display from the hosts, which led to a foul on Ante Rebic. Franck Kessie converted the penalty successfully.

The Rossoneri suffered a setback around the half-hour mark when Sandro Tonali saw a red card following an awful foul, thus forcing them to play with ten men for the rest of the game.

Nevertheless, Milan started the second half on a high note after Rafael Leao doubled the lead in an emphatic fashion, scoring from a difficult angle.

Benevento had a great chance to get back into the game after they were handed a penalty. But Gianluca Caprari fired his shot wide from the spot.

Leao’s goal turned out to be the winning one as Milan claimed another three points to keep their stellar form intact.

Milan also reclaimed the top spot after Inter enjoyed the leaders’ cushion for a while following their win against Crotone.

Pipo Inzaghi, Benevento’s manager, failed to halt the run of his former club Milan despite impressing in the last three league games – wins against Udinese and Genoa while a draw against Lazio.

Milan manager Stefano Pioli offered his thoughts on the win: “Once again, after going down to 10 men, we showed heart, intensity, passion and belief. It’s another very big victory.”

We don’t let the results of our opponents put pressure on us. We put pressure on ourselves by demanding the best. There were a few errors, but we showed such unity to bring the result home.

“Every result is important to boost the self-belief.”
