Bayern Munich 1-1 Union Berlin: Visitors strike late to cancel out Musiala goal

Marcus Ingvartsen’s last equaliser denied all three points for the defending champions.

Bayern Munich look to be still reeling off their Champions League setback against PSG as they were held to a 1-1 draw against Union Berlin in the Bundesliga.

Having lost 3-2 to Les Parisiens in the quarter-finals earlier this week, Bayern looked desperate for a win to get their momentum back.

However, Bayern were able to find their breakthrough in the 68th minute after a fine effort from teenager Jamal Musiala, assisted by Thomas Muller.

But the Bavarians failed to hold on to their lead as Union Berlin levelled the scoreline with only a few minutes to spare through Marcus Ingvartsen.

The result showed that Bayern haven’t gotten over their defeat against PSG in the Champions League but they have to regroup in no time for the second leg.

The absence of Robert Lewandowski was clearly felt as Bayern registered 2 shots on target out of their total 15. Eric Choupo-Moting has taken the guard the place of Lewandowski but he is not the player Bayern can rely on in the big games.

Not only the Polish striker, but Bayern also had a long list of injuries that reflected on their result.

Besides, their defence has been shaky since their defeat to PSG and it was also evident in the game against Bundesliga where their defence got opened when they played a high line.

Despite the draw, Bayern are still five points clear at the top of the table but their chances in Champions League are hanging in balance as they have a mammoth task of overturning the 2-3 deficit on aggregate.
