Dortmund 3-0 Arminia Bielefeld: Sancho stars as Dortmund boost top-four chances

Borussia Dortmund

Borussia Dortmund registered three consecutive wins in all competition on Saturday, as they brushed aside DSC Arminia Bielefeld with a brilliant performance that boosted that chance of returning to within the top four of the Bundesliga table.

After an impressive win over Schalke in their last week’s game, Edin Terzić’s boys produced an even better performance in the Signal Iduna Park, dominating their visitors from the off and ending the day with a second clean sheet in two games.

Second-half goals from Mahmoud Dahoud, Jadon Sancho and Reinier was enough to hand the hosts their 12th win of the season while Bielefeld were condemned to a 14th league loss this season.

Dortmund began the game in a rampant fashion and could have gone ahead within the first three minutes. But Jude Bellingham’s goal-bound effort was blocked while Raphael Guerreiro and Reyna missed by a few inches within the first five minutes.

Those early misses were an indication of what lay in store for the game as Dortmund carved their visitors apart time and again. They got a few other chances to score in the first period, but Marco Reus, Reyna and Haaland were unable to convert their chances.

However, the hosts came out flying in the second half and were ahead three minutes after the restart via a fine Mahmoud Dahoud goal. The goal was the least they deserved after many missed chances in the first half.

From there, Edin Terzić’s boys took proceedings into their hands and were two up in the 61st minute when they were awarded a penalty for a foul on Marco Reus, which Jadon Sancho converted.

Substitute, Reinier made it three a minute after coming on, to complete a comfortable win for Dortmund—the goal was the teenager’s first goal for the club.

The result moved Dortmund temporarily to 5th place as Leverkusen are not in action until Sunday, while Bielefeld drop down to 16th place on the league standings.

Dortmund will play Bayern next in the Bundesliga while Bielefeld will host Union Berlin on the same day.
