Goretzka reveals Liverpool interest before joining Bayern, heaps praise on Klopp

Javi Martinez hands Bayern Munich a parting gift with winning goal in 2-1 Super Cup victory

The German midfielder has confirmed Liverpool interest before making a move to Allianz Arena.

Bayern Munich midfielder Leon Goretzka revealed that he considered a move to Liverpool before he joined the Bundesliga Champions in 2018.

Nevertheless, the 25-year-old became a success with the Bavarians as he was an integral part of Hansi Flick’s side that won the continental treble last season.

Goretzka said he considered a move to Anfield given the success achieved by his compatriot and German manager Jurgen Klopp.

“Liverpool were a consideration of course.” “They’re a great club and their development since Kloppo came has been amazing.

“We’re all a little proud of him winning the title, but I was 100 per cent sure that Bayern was the right move for me.”

It was alongside the current Reds midfielder Thiago Alcantara where Goretzka established a great midfield partnership last season at Allianz Arena.

Following the departure of Thiago to Anfield in the summer, the responsibility has increased for Goretzka as he and Joshua Kimmich are first choice midfield double pivot for Flick.

The former Schalke man has become a well-recognised midfielder under Flick after racking up a total of 8 goals and 11 assists in all competitions last season.

He continues to be an indispensable player for the Bundesliga champions and with the injury to Kimmich, Goretzka has been the go-to guy in the midfield this season.

Bayern are currently second in the league table and their chances of winning the title once again rely upon the performances of established players like Goretzka.
