Leverkusen 1-2 Freiburg: Bayer slip further, despite Bailey led fightback

Leon Bailey-Bayer Leverkusen

Bayer Leverkusen were beaten 2-1 by Freiburg in the Bundesliga earlier tonight.

The visitors scored the opening goal of the game in the 50th minute through Ermedin Demirovic and Lucas Holer doubled their advantage 10 minutes later.

Leverkusen soon got back into the game through Leon Bailey on the 70th minute but it was too little too late for them and the visitors managed to defend their advantage for the remainder of the game and grind out all three points.

The home side will be thoroughly disappointed with their performance here. They have now failed to win five of their last six league games and the fans would have expected a lot better from the players.

Meanwhile, Freiburg have been in impressive form in recent weeks and there are unbeaten in four of the last six League matches. The win tonight leaves them just three points adrift of Leverkusen and they will fancy their chances of European qualification this season.

Meanwhile, Leverkusen are currently five points adrift of the Champions League spot and it will be interesting to see if they can get their season back on track in the coming weeks and secure Champions League qualification.

The home side were the better team heading into tonight’s game and the fans will be hoping that the players can bounce back strongly in their next outing now. Leverkusen were unbeaten in their last six matches against Freiburg heading into tonight’s contest and it should have been a comfortable win for them.
