Julian Nagelsmann optimistic over Leon Goretzka contract extension amid Manchester United links

The Bayern Munich midfielder has been linked with a move to Old Trafford.

Bayern Munich manager Julian Nagelsmann is confident about the contract extension of Leon Goretzka and says that the midfielder is part of his plans for the upcoming season.

Goretzka’s exit rumours have been circulating recently as he enters the final 12 months of his contract.

The Bavarians are allegedly open to selling him this summer to avoid him leaving for free next year, while Manchester United have reportedly enquired about his availability.

The Red Devils are in the market for midfield reinforcements amid uncertainty over Paul Pogba’s future, with the Frenchman said to be reluctant to pen an extension.

However, Bayern’s new manager Nagelsmann has insisted that the former Schalke star would eventually stay put at Allianz Arena.

Nagelsmann on Goretzka’s contract situation: “I’m not involved enough that I have a say every day. I stay out of these issues.

“Of course, I have talked to him about my plans for him. I’ve told him I’d be happy if he extended, and I’m also confident. There are several topics involved when it comes to discussing a contract extension.

“I’ll continue to focus on the sports side of things and show him he can be one of the most dangerous midfielders in Europe. He has potential to get even better.”

Nagelsmann had earlier heaped praise on Gortezka’s abilities and said he wants the midfielder to continue at Bayern for years.

Bavarians’ CEO Oliver Khan had also commented on the 26-year-old’s contract situation, stating that talks were progressing well.
