Nagelsmann’s side edges out hosts Stuttgart in their first Bundesliga game of 2021.

Leipzig are off to a flying start in 2021 after edging out Stuttgart 1 – 0, with Dani Olmo scoring the only goal of the game.

The visitors had an early advantage to kick things off after were handed a penalty for bringing Emil Forsberg down. The Swede’s strike was denied by a stunning save from Gregor Kobel.

As the first half saw no goals, Leipzig were expected to dominate the second period and they did it comfortably while Dani Olmo appeared on the scoresheet. The Spaniard was at the right place to send the ball into the nets after his compatriot Angelino’s cross took a huge deflection from  Stuttgart’s defender on the way through.

Olmo has enjoyed a great season under Julian Nagelsmman this season, scoring 2 goals 4 assists and his potential is looking high.

Leipzig had a big chance to wind up the game in a stunning way, but Kobel was at it again to make an acrobatic save. However, that didn’t keep Leipzig from securing three points.

Nagelsmann’s side have cruised to the top of the table after the win,  beating Bayern albeit a match down.

Julian Nagelsmann:

“I’m very pleased with the game. We settled into the game well and did well across the whole first half. The 30 minutes after half time were really strong.”

“The boys had their hearts in the right place today and deserved the win. Our goal was played out really well. That’s how we wanted to play against a deep Stuttgart side.

A big compliment to Péter #Gulácsi, who kept another clean sheet.”
