Chelsea boss Lampard slams referee Taylor and VAR decisions

Chelsea boss Lampard slams referee Taylor and VAR decisions

Chelsea were beaten by Arsenal in the FA Cup final last night and Frank Lampard is unhappy with the level of officiating in the game.

Mateo Kovacic was sent off (second yellow) for a 50-50 challenge on the 73rd minute when Chelsea were chasing the game. The sending off totally changed the game for the Blues and they struggled to maintain the pressure on the Gunners.

Replays showed that it was a harsh decision from Anthony Taylor and there was no intervention from the VAR as well.

Furthermore, that wasn’t the only decision that went against the Blues on the night. Martinez caught the ball outside of his box but the referee missed it. The Arsenal keeper could have been sent off on another day.

Arsenal were also let off in certain situations that could have been bookings.

Speaking to the media during his post-match presser, Lampard said: “What kind of rule is that? There has always been this one about how you couldn’t challenge two yellows. Someone is sitting there stubbornly sticking to their guns on that one because if we have VAR that is great. Let’s use it as much as we can to get the right decision. Many things went against us, it is not a sending off, everybody knows that, so that was a shame.”

The Chelsea manager went on to slam his players’ performances on the night as well. He accepted that despite being unlucky, the player should have done more to win the game.
