Donny van de Beek excluded from Ajax squad amidst Barcelona, Man United interest

Manchester United interested to sign Ajax's Donny van de Beek

The Dutch midfielder was dropped out of the squad in the preseason friendlies.

Ajax midfielder Donny van de Beek was left out of the squad in the friendlies against Eintracht Frankfurt.

According to reports, Ajax manager Erik ten Hag spoke about the omission of the midfielder amidst the transfer speculations.

Ten Hag said,

“There are indeed developments that prevent him from being in the selection.

“We are looking at how that will end.”

Manchester United and Barcelona are understood to be monitoring the Netherlands international while Real Madrid had attempted to sign before the Pandemic break. Van de Beek was closer to joining the Los Blancos, but a deal never materialized.

Barca have recently registered their interest in Van de Beek, with new manager Ronald Koeman eyeing a reunion at the Nou Camp. The Catalans have also reportedly tried to use Luis Suarez as a makeweight in an attempt to sign Van de Beek from Ajax.

However, the Catalans’ interest is understood have diminished, leaving Man Utd as the potential suitors for the 23-year old.

The Red Devils have been the long-term admirers of the Dutch midfielder, who is likely to leave Amsterdam this summer.

Ten Hag had previously stated that Van de Beek would be one of the few players to probably leave Ajax this year although the midfielder has a contract running until next year.

Man Utd would be happy to sign the Dutchman after their pursuit of Jadon Sancho has gone awry.
