Ansu Fati ruled out for four months after knee injury

Ansu Fati inspires Barcelona to a 4-0 win over Villarreal

The Barcelona teenager has undergone surgery after tearing his meniscus in the game against Real Betis.

Barcelona have confirmed that teenage sensation Ansu Fati would be out for four after undergoing knee surgery.

The 18-year-old sustained an ankle injury during the weekend La Liga fixture against Real Betis, and he was taken off after the first half. It was later revealed that Fati had torn his internal meniscus, needing immediate surgery.

A statement from Barca’s website read,

“Ansu Fati has successfully undergone surgery for the internal meniscus injury in his left knee.

“The operation was performed by Dr Ramon Cugat under the supervision of the Club’s medical services.”

It would be a set-back for the Blaugrana as Fati has been productive for them in this season so far. The La Masia graduate has racked up a total of five goals in all competitions, which also helped him become an indisputable starter.

Fati also made history with Spain national team in September when he became their youngest ever goal-scorer following his goal against Ukraine in Nations League.

Ronald Koeman could turn to Dembele in the absence of Fati, and the French man has already demonstrated his talent to the Blaugrana manager.

Dembele scored his first league goal in the 5-2 win against Betis while he has already two goals to his name in the Champions League, scoring against Juventus and Ferencvaros.

Barca have a surfeit of attacking options like Francisco Triancao, Pedri bar Griezmann and Messi, but it remains to be seen whether they will cope with the absence of Fati.
