Atletico Madrid reach agreement for the signing of Lyon striker Moussa Dembele

The French striker is set to replace Diego Costa at Wanda Metropolitano

Atletico Madrid have reportedly reached an agreement with Lyon for the signing of Moussa Dembele.

The report also adds that the Frenchman would be arriving at Wanda Metropolitano on an initial loan and Atletico can sign him permanently for 33 million Euros.

Rojiblancos have been keeping tabs on Real Sociedad’s Willian Jose alongside Dembele to replace veteran striker Diego Costa, who agreed for the termination of his contract due to personal reasons.

While Atletico found it difficult to negotiate with La Real for the signing of Willian Jose, they turned their attention towards Dembele.

Dembele has been productive for Les Gones for the past two seasons, which saw him get linked with Europe’s top clubs.

However, the former Celtic man has struggled this season, finding the nets only once in 16 Ligue 1 appearances.

Dembele was instrumental behind Lyon’s fairy tale run in the Champions League last term, scoring in the quarter-finals against Manchester City.

Atletico are currently soaring in La Liga and they have already been deemed the favourites to lift the title.

A signing like Dembele would bolster Atletico’s attacking options but they have to wait until the French man recovers from his fractured arm.

It also remains to be seen whether he can step up his game in a competitive league like the Spanish top flight.

Luis Suarez has been the Colchoneros’ nominal striker this season and his signing is already proving to be game-changing as the Uruguayan has racked up 9 goals in 12 appearances.
