Goals from Fede Valverde, Ramos, Modric help Madrid beat Barcelona in the derby

Real Madrid have edged out Barcelona in the first Clasico of the season at Camp Nou.

The game got off to an exciting start as the visitors took the lead with the help of Federico Valverde, only for Ansu Fati to equalize in no time.

The first half turned out to be open-ended as both the sides looked vulnerable in the defence.

Barca entered the second half with more intentions as they continuously troubled Madrid’s backline. However, their chances went begging, especially Coutinho and Fati missed out their respective chances.

Los Blancos took the lead at the 63rd minute through Sergio Ramos’ penalty, which was awarded by VAR for Clement Lenglet’s foul on the Spanish centre-back.

Barca went all out for the equalizer, with Ronald Koeman bringing in Antoine Griezmann, Trincao and Ousmane Dembele as substitutes in the final stages.

However, the Dutch manager’s efforts proved stale as Luka Modric scored the third goal for Madrid at the stroke of the regular time.

The Croatian fetched on to the loose ball by Neto to put the game to bed once and for all. Madrid, perhaps, could have ended the game very early if not for Neto’s string of saves including the touchline clearance of Ramos’ effort.

Barca are now without a win in their last three El Clasico games.

On the other hand, Zinedine Zidane might have saved his job after going through a rough patch in the last few matches.
