Barcelona to allow Lionel Messi to decide his future

The Argentine is said to be in utter disappointment following the Champions League elimination.

Barcelona will not be pushing Lionel Messi any further as they have reportedly let him decide his future.

Messi’s exit links came out of the woodwork following another shock elimination from the Champions League in the quarter-finals against Bayern Munich.

The 33-year-old is said to have grown frustrated on the defeat, which has now put him on the radar of Inter Milan and Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.

Earlier, Messi spoke about Barca’s dull campaign in La Liga, insisting them to up the ante. The Catalans lost the title eventually to arch-rivals Real Madrid. He is also said to be unhappy over Barca’s lack of planning over the course.

The Catalan club also got knocked out of Copa del Rey by Atletico Madrid under then-manager Ernesto Valverde.

Messi’s contract is set to expire in 2021, with a renewal yet to be signed. It was previously reported that Man City were eager to recruit the Argentine captain, but to no avail in the end.

However, Barca President Josep Maria Bartomeu is keen on keeping the six-time Ballon d’Or winner for good. Even Man City manager Pep Guardiola had wished Messi to retire wearing the Barca shirt.

Messi’s impressive numbers have been overshadowed by the Blaugrana’s lacklustre season, which saw them go trophyless.

It will be interesting to see whether the Argentine skipper would end his journey with his long-time club or seek out a new adventure.
