Barcelona Transfer: Desperation to sell Coutinho, Rudiger and Schar interest

Philippe Coutinho-Barcelona

Barca looking to offload Coutinho

Barcelona are reportedly planning to sell Philippe Coutinho as they look to avoid paying Liverpool a fee of £18m, agreed as per the current clause. The Catalans are also looking to sell the Brazilian for as less as £45m due to tough financial circumstances.

Coutinho’s stock has significantly fallen following his £142m move to the Nou Camp in 2018.

The former Inter star looked like he had found his feet under Ronald Koeman but his performances have slightly dipped in the last few games.

Rudiger transfer talks intensified

Antonio Rudiger’s links to Barcelona have intensified after he revealed that he is not happy serving the bench for Chelsea.

The German has lost his place in the starting line-up this season under Frank Lampard, who had deployed Kurt Zouma and Thiago Silva in the defence.

Tottenham is also understood to be a potential suitor for Rudiger alongside Barca.

Swiss defender linked with January move

While Barca are planning to raid Chelsea for Rudiger, Swiss defender Fabian Schar has also emerged as a surprise target in January.

Schar, 29, plays for Newcastle United and has been viewed as a short-term option to strengthen the defence.

Barca manager Ronald Koeman has reportedly told the hierarchy that he wants to sign a defender in January but the Dutch gaffer would be forced to sign cost-effective players since Barca have been hit financially by the pandemic.

Manchester City young centre-back Eric Garcia remains a priority for the Catalans.
