Real Madrid confirmed last night that club captain Sergio Ramos will leave the club at the end of this month.

The Spanish international will be a free agent this summer, and he has decided to move on after spending 16 years at Santiago Bernabeu.

Apparently, Real Madrid had offered him an extension, but the package was not up to his expectations, and he has refused to take a pay cut.

According to reports, the likes of Karim Benzema and Marcelo will now be the captains at the club next season.

They are one of the most senior players at the club, and therefore the decision is hardly surprising.

However, Marcelo has lost his regular starting berth at the club, and it is fair to assume that Benzema will be the more regular choice to lead the side next year.

Furthermore, Marcelo has been linked with a move to the Premier League in recent weeks, and it will be interesting to see if he decides to move on as well.

The side that won multiple Champions League titles under Brazilian Zidane has started to unravel, and Real Madrid could lose the likes of Marcelo add Modric soon as well.

It will be interesting to see where Ramos ends up eventually. The experienced centre back has been linked with Paris Saint Germain, Sevilla and Manchester united.

Despite his age, he could still be a quality addition for most teams in world football and his experience and winning mentality could make a massive difference for any side he decides to join.

The Spaniard is one of the most decorated players in the history of Real Madrid, and he has helped them several titles during his stay at the club.

It will be interesting to see how the Spanish giants replace his quality and leadership next season.
