Lionel Messi’s Transfer Request to Barcelona – Impact

Messi accepts pay-cut, to help Barcelona staff, hits at Board

Barcelona have plunged into chaos as a club after Lionel Messi’s decision to leave this summer.

Apparently, the Argentine has informed the club through fax that he wants to leave on a free transfer.

Barcelona are adamant that he has a release clause of 700 million euros and his suitors will have to pay up if they want to sign him this summer.

Messi had a clause in his contract that allows him to leave for free this summer. However, the player had to exercise it by the end of June.

The player’s legal team believe that the extension of the season due to the current health crisis allows them to exercise the clause until the end of August and they have now informed Barcelona that they wish to activate the option this summer.

It seems that a chaotic legal battle is on the cards in the coming weeks.

Messi has fallen out with the current club President Josep Bartomeu and it will be interesting to see if he decides to resign.

Lionel Messi’s decision has rocked the Barcelona fanbase as well and hundreds of Barcelona fans gathered outside Camp Nou to join in on the protests last night.

Presidential candidate Victor Font has called for Bartomeu to step down or the board could issue a no-confidence motion against the current Barcelona president.

Former player and club legend Carles Puyol issued a statement on Twitter after Messi’s  decision to leave the club.

The former Barcelona defender tweeted that Messi has all his support and respect. Current striker Luis Suarez shared his seal of approval as well.

It seems that the players of present and future support Messi’s decision to leave the club amid the current situation.

It will be interesting to see Barcelona can change the player’s mind and convince him to continue at the Spanish club.

The president of Catalonia also thanked Messi for his services at Barcelona and revealed that it will always be his home no matter what.
