Pochettino talks about Messi’s failed Espanyol move but kept coy over transfer to PSG

Newcastle to appoint Mauricio Pochettino as new Manager

The Argentine gaffer revealed about Messi’s failed loan move to Espanyol

PSG boss Mauricio Pochettino has revealed that he had the chance to work with Lionel Messi during his managerial stint at Espanyol, but was to no avail in the end.

However, the former Tottenham boss was reluctant to answer over Barcelona star’s possible move to PSG.

Messi to PSG? No comment. ” When I was at Espanyol or Southampton, my dream was to have the best players at the club and Messi came close to being loaned out to Espanyol.

Pochettino added that he has the same affinity towards Newells Old Boys as Messi does and also remains updated over Barca star’s day-to-day happenings.

“We’ve met over the years in places such as London or in Italy. We both share the love for Newell’s [Old Boys], as we both came through their academy and that is our common bond.”

I’m aware of all that is going on [with Messi]. I’ve been watching everyone from West Ham to Valladolid and these days you need to keep your eyes on every team.”

The 33-year-old’s contract with the Blaugrana expires this summer, with his future remaining up in the air. Although the Presidential candidate wants the six-time Ballon d’Or to tie up to a new deal, Messi appears to be leaning towards an exit after a one-and-a-half decade at the Catalan club.

Les Parisiens alongside Manchester City are said to be keen on signing Messi on a free transfer.
