Los Blancos moved ahead of Barcelona to second place after defeating Valencia.

Real Madrid produced a comfortable 2-0 win against Valencia at home as they leapfrogged Barcelona to the second position in the La Liga table.

Karim Benzema opened the account for Los Blancos before midfielder Toni Kroos doubled the lead right at the end of the half time.

The second half saw no goals from both the sides although Ferland Mendy had his strike chalked off by VAR due to offside.

Benzema produced another excellent display as he has found the scoresheet in back to back games. Although rumours have it that the Frenchman is pondering over his future at the Spanish Capital club beyond this summer, he continues to be Madrid’s best player and his goal tally has risen to 12 after today’s strike.

Madrid have been slandered of late due to their erratic form, which saw them fail in the cup competitions, but everything returned to normal after the comeback win against Huesca followed by another comprehensive victory over Getafe last week. Today’s victory was their third in the row as they have leapfrogged arch-rivals Barcelona to the second place although they are far off from the leaders Atletico Madrid.

Zinedine Zidane had earlier insisted that Los Blancos wouldn’t give up on the title race regardless of their unimpressive results in recent times and it remains to be seen whether they can build on today’s victory against struggling Valencia.
