Ronald Koeman insists the signings of Memphis Depay, Eric Garcia in January

Barcelona appointed Ronald Koeman as new manager

The Barcelona gaffer wants to bring in reinforcements in January despite the financial crisis.

Barcelona’s woes haven’t stopped even after the appointment of Ronald Koeman as the Dutch manager has struggled to find his foot right in his first season at the Nou Camp.

With the pressure building on Koeman, he is looking to turn things around by adding new players in the January transfer window.

According to reports, Koeman has prioritised the transfer of Lyon forward Memphis Depay and Manchester City’s Eric Garcia, who both turn out to be a long-time target for the Catalans.

Barca have been hit with injuries of late – the likes of Ousmane Dembele and Ansu Fati in the attack and veteran defender Gerard Pique – and it is already taking the toll on their results on the field. The best instances were the struggles against Juventus and Osasuna in the last two weeks.

Depay and Garcia perhaps were closer to joining the Catalans in the summer transfer window but the moves couldn’t be materialised due to financial depravity.

Even after months have passed, Barca continue to get linked with the duo in which Garcia looks steadfast on his return to the Nou Camp after declining a contract extension from Man City.

Depay had earlier spoken about his failed move to Barca but reports started that the Dutch forward would do his best to join the Blaugrana in January, thereby reuniting with his former gaffer Koeman.

Barca have recently suffered a big defeat against Juventus in the Champions League and dropped to the second position in their group. The La Liga form also leaves a lot to be desired for the Catalans as they are currently ninth in the table.
