The former Barca legend identifies the player who can take over from Messi.

Former Barcelona star Samuel Eto’o has named the player who can succeed Lionel Messi at the Nou Camp.

The Argentine has been heavily linked with an exit from the Catalan club, with his contract running out at the end of this season.

The Catalan legend Eto’o recognises teenage sensation Ansu Fati could take up the mantle of Messi in the long run.

Eto’o said, “I think [Fati] is the one for the future.” “He’s currently doing amazing stuff so I think the club really needs to groom him and take very good care of him.

“Let’s hope he’s the one to take over from Messi.”

Fati has been already deemed as the future of the Catalans due to his precocious talent while making himself an indispensable starter with the first team.

The 18-year-old has also impressed with the Spanish national team following a string of brilliant displays with the first team.

In his breakout season last term, Fati racked up a total of seven goals and has found the nets four times this season. He is currently out injured and expected to return for Barca’s Champions League clash against PSG.

Fati’s absence was clearly felt by the Blaugrana and it says volumes about the significance of the teenager.

Although it looks too early to assume that Fati can replace Messi in the long run, it is safe to say that the Spaniard is the best thing that has happened for the Catalans in a while.
