Sergio Ramos injury has complicated contract talks with Real Madrid

Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos is currently sidelined with a knee injury and it seems that the lay off has complicated matters as far as a contract renewal is concerned.

The 34-year-old Spanish international will be a free agent at the end of the season and he was locked in talks with Real Madrid regarding a new deal.

However the Spanish outfit are now prepared to wait until the defender completely recovers from his injury before agreeing on a new contract with him.

Ramos is unlikely to be back in action before April and it makes sense for his club to be concerned about his long term well being at this stage of his career.

Real Madrid are already stuck with someone like Gareth Bale who has been plagued with injuries and they will not want to have a similar situation with another player.

It will be interesting to see if Ramos can prove his long term fitness when he returns in April and convince the La Liga giant to splash out on a new contract.

The 34-year-old is one of the most influential players in the club’s history. He has helped them win several trophies and even this season Zinedine Zidane‘s side have lost five of the lost 10 matches without him.

Despite his age, he could still be a valuable part of the club’s dressing room and Real Madrid cannot afford to let him leave just yet.

It remains to be seen whether the player is prepared to wait until April-May to decide on his future. He has been linked with the likes of PSG and Bayern recently and it will be interesting to see if his suitors take advantage of his situation and decide to secure his services as soon as possible.
