Leipzig 5-0 Mainz: Werner hat-trick buried Mainz

Leipzig 5-0 Mainz - Werner hat-trick buried Mainz

Timo Werner scored another hat-trick in the return leg match in Bundesliga, as RB Leipzig buried Mainz 5-0 at Opel Arena. The scoreline though not extreme as first leg, where the scoreline stood 8-0 in favour of Leipzig based team.

Mainz manager Achim Beierlorzer made one change to his starting line- up after the match against FC Köln, Bruma started in place of Ji.

RB Leipzig coach Julian Nagelsmann made three changes from their starting eleven against SC Freiburg; instead of Mukiele, Adams and Angelino, he brought Upamecano, Dani Olmo and Sabitzer.

The FSV could only counter the oppressive dominance of Leipzig with dynamic counterattacks after winning the ball in the early minutes – then Mainz was increasingly encircled in the back. In minute eleven, the surprisingly free-standing Werner scored 1: 0 for RB from Laimer, who was replaced prematurely, from a half-right penalty position.

The 24-year-old Germany striker took his tally to 24 in Bundesliga (30, for the season) with a superb hat-trick, whereas Poulsen and Sabitzer scored the other goals.

Leipzig vs Mainz: Werner made the difference

Timo Werner scored three goals and made three assists first leg match, as Leipzig beat Mainz 8-0 to record their biggest ever Bundesliga win, and they again found him in devastating form.

Timo Werner was experiencing a goal draught and had difficult times as he did not find the back of the net more than once in last eight games. But as he scored first at 11th minute there was no looking back.

Yussuf Poulsen and Marcel Sabitzer added further goals against Mainz before halftime break. Werner made it 4-0 from close range immediately after break, and he completed his hat-trick with finely executed lob at 75th minute.
