Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski believes that he should have won the Balon d’Or this year.

The Polish striker has been in sensational form this past season and he is the top scorer in European football. The Bayern Munich striker scored 55 goals in 47 appearances during 2019/20.

Lewandowski has also helped his side win the German League title, the German Cup and the Champions League.

The organisers of Balon d’Or cancelled the event earlier this year because of the coronavirus pandemic. France football believe that the cancellation of certain leagues and postponement of competitions has resulted in an  unfair playing field.

Several talented players have missed out on the prestigious award over the last few years because of the Ronaldo-Messi duopoly but Lewandowski produced one of the best individual seasons in recent memory this year and he deserves to win the award.

The Polish forward has comfortably outperformed both Messi and Ronaldo this past season and he would have been a worthy winner.

Speaking to the media, he said: “We won everything we could with Bayern. In every competition: Bundesliga, German Cup and Champions League, I was the top scorer. I understand that the pressure of other parties on another player may be greater. But it’s not like every footballer would win the Golden Ball by achieving what I do?”.
