Lyon survive late scare at Brest to secure 3-2 win and moves to the top of the Ligue 1 table, as Aouar and Depay found themselves in scoresheet.

Lyon saw off Brest in an exciting weekend Ligue 1 encounter.

Lyon moved to the top of the table after defeating Brest 3-2 away, leapfrogging both PSG and Lille.

The first half was rather dominated by the visitors, with the Brazilian midfielder Lucas Paqueta opening the account within 10 minutes.

Paqueta’s fellow midfielder Houssem Aouar doubled the lead before Memphis Depay, their highest scorer of this season, made it 3-0 from the penalty spot right at the end of the first half.

More fun to be followed in the second half as Brest sported their fight back. The hosts nearly pulled off a comeback draw but managed to score only two goals ( Chardonnet, Cardona) as Lyon grabbed three important points.

Les Gones had their four-match winning run halted by Montpellier last week but have now regained the momentum with what turned out to be a thrilling win against Brest.

Paqueta has found the scoresheet for the second consecutive game as his debut season in Ligue 1 is turning out to be productive.

Lyon manager Rudi Garcia offered his thoughts on the result, stating that it was important to scrape out a win despite the troubles they had throughout the game.

“We coped with Brest well in the first half. We knew it would be difficult. In the second half, we struggled. Not everything was perfect, of course. We could have done better but it was important to win here.”
