Lyon have ensured three points after an emphatic win against Monaco

Lyon have prevailed in their Ligue 1 contest against Monaco, with Toko Ekambi, Depay and Aouar finding the scoresheet.

The home side struck first in the 12th minute after a brilliant finish from Memphis Depay, assisted by Houssem Aouar, who would score the third goal for Lyon from the penalty spot later in the first half.

Depay broke his drought as his last goal had come against Montpellier the previous month and that was too in the losing cause. The Dutch forward also celebrated the goal in support of his compatriot and Liverpool centre-back Virgil van Dijk, who was hit with an ACL injury last week.

Karl Toko Ekambi scored the second and fourth goal for Les Gones in the space of ten minutes as his excellent goal-scoring was on target once again. The 28-year-old completed his second consecutive brace for Lyon; the last one was against Strasbourg the previous week.

Monaco managed to pull one back after the break, with Wissam Ben Yedder scoring from the spot. Melvin Bard of Lyon, who came as a substitute, saw a red card in the dying minutes of the game.

Niko Kovac has failed to lead his side to a win in the last three outings in Serie A while Lyon are currently sixth in the table with three wins, four draws and a defeat.

Lyon will face Lille in their next fixture and manager Rudi Garcia is expecting to get a result.
