Paris Saint-Germain‘s chief Nasser Al-Khelaifi has stated that Lionel Messi, like “all great players”, wants to join the club.

The club President who was speaking to French magazine L’Equipe concerning his club’s transfer plans for the summer said that the Argentinean is interested in joining PSG.

Messi, whose contract at Barcelona is yet to be resolved, has long been linked with a move to the Paris club. The Barca striker had at several times been subject to a charm offensive by several PSG players, with the former teammate Neymar making public his desire to play alongside Messi.

And now Al-Khelaifi has come out to wade into the debate, although he also refused to discuss a move regarding Barca man.

“Messi is at the end of his contract, and all clubs have the right to talk to him and recruit him for next season,” Al-Khelaifi told L’Equipe.

“What I can tell you, and you can, believe me, is that all great players want to come to PSG.

“All – just to be clear, I’m not saying that to answer you on Messi. It’s not possible to sign them all since we have great players too.

“And Messi is Messi, a fantastic player.”

Messi is reportedly set to agree to a contract extension with Barcelona but will have to take a substantial pay cut due to the impact of the pandemic that has seen the club owe over €1 billion in debt.

PSG may offer Messi more than Barca is willing to offer to attract him to Parc des Princes. However, Messi is reportedly more interested in the sporting project at PSG as he has the possibility of winning the Champions League again before he retires with the club.
