Lyon 3-0 Reims: Ekambi, Guimaraes, Dembele on scoresheet

Moussa Dembele-Lyon

Olympique Lyonnais moved up to second place in the Ligue 1 table with a comfortable win over Reims, who were reduced to ten men early in the game.

The home team who made it three wins in as many games won three-nil on the day.

Reims, who were already behind through a Toko Ekambi goal, were given a mountain to climb when Moreto Cassamã was sent-off in the 32nd minute.

The visitors began the better of both sides with a handful of opportunities from set-piece situations from Lyon fouls. But it was Lyon who came closest to scoring in the 8th minute when Karl Toko Ekambi hit the post after being released by Memphis Depay.

The hosts got their goal in the 23rd minute through Ekambi. The forward combined again with Depay, who found him with a sumptuous cross which he did dispatched.

On the 32nd minute, Moreto Cassamã was sent off after the referee deemed that he had denied Memphis Depay a goal-scoring opportunity after who had latched onto a loose ball in the middle.

With their numerical advantage, Lyon moved to press home their advantage early on in the second half, scoring their second goal of the night in the 49th minute through a Bruno Guimarães goal.

The Brazilian’s shot from range took a massive deflection off Marshall Munetsi, totally wrong-footing Predrag Rajković and nestling low into the right side of the net.

If the second goal was a thing of luck, the third surely wasn’t, with the lively Toko Ekambi turning provider this time.

The Cameroonian released substitute Moussa Dembélé with a sumptuous through pass, which he chipped over the onrushing Rajković to score his first goal of the season.

The result means that Lyon head into the next round two points behind PSG. They are back in action on Friday against Metz while Reims will host Nice on the same day.
