Pochettino signs one-year contract with Paris Saint-Germain

PSG gaffer Mauricio Pochettino has signed a one-year extension, thus extending his stay at Parc des Princes until 2023.

The Argentine gaffer replaced Thomas Tuchel – the current Chelsea manager – earlier this year. Pochettino led Les Parisiens to two domestic titles in the last season.

However, his first six months in charge at the French capital has been met with criticism following PSG’s failure to retain the Ligue 1 title. PSG lost the title race to Lille by a point and were also eliminated in the Champions League semi-finals against Manchester City.

Now, with what looks like a productive transfer window – signings of Georginio Wijnaldum, Sergio Ramos, Achraf Hakimi and Gianluigi Donnarumma suggests, Pochettino will look to make a statement in the upcoming season.

Upon signing his extension, the Argentine said: “I’m really very happy, for myself and also for my staff.

“It’s very important for us to feel the confidence of the club and we will give our maximum so that the supporters are proud of Paris Saint-Germain.

“That’s why we will try and reach our objectives altogether, as one. Twenty years ago I was captain of this club and today I am the coach… It’s a dream come true.”

Tuchel could raid PSG for French defender Presnel Kimpembe.

The Blues gaffer Thomas Tuchel has been planning on defensive reinforcements ahead of next season as he wants to build on the impressive Champions League run last term.

Having raided Les Parisiens previously for the signing of Thiago Silva, Blues are now reportedly interested in Presnel Kimpembe.Having raided Les Parisiens previously for the signing of Thiago Silva, Blues are now reportedly interested in Presnel Kimpembe.

Kimpembe’s position could be in danger following the arrival of Spanish legend Sergio Ramos, who is expected to lead the backline alongside Marquinhos.

The French defender was regular during Tuchel’s reign at PSG, and there is a possibility now that he could be reunited with the German manager once again at Stamford Bridge.
