Monaco 2-0 Brest: Kovac’s side keep title push alive with a win over Brest

Niko Kovac-Monaco

Monaco continued their impressive run in Ligue 1 with a two-nil win over Brest on Sunday.

Niko Kovac men stretched their unbeaten run to 13 games to boost their chances of winning the Ligue 1 title this season.

Two second-half goals from Stevan Jovetic and Kevin Volland gave the hosts their 11th win from 13 games despite a first-half penalty miss by Ben Yedder.

Monaco began the game brightly and could have gone ahead in the 20th minute, but Aurelien Tchouameni could only head a Ruben Aguilar free-kick inches over.

They had another opportunity in the 30th minute to take the lead from the penalty spot. But Ben Yedder could not beat Gautier Larsonneur with the goalkeeper anticipating it right to keep the scores level in the first half.

After the restart, Caio Silva’s rocket shot was kept out by the frame of the bar, while Gautier Larsonneur was proving to be in an inspired form. The Brest goalie pulled up impressive saves to deny Yedder, Ruben Aguilar and Aurelien Tchouameni.

However, he could do nothing about Stevan Jovetic’s 76th-minute rocket that gave Monaco the lead. The hosts doubled their goal and sealed the win on the 90th minute through a Kevin Volland goal.

The result keeps them in 4th place, 14 points ahead of Metz who are in 5th, while Brest drop to 13th place.
