The Barcelona ace was left out of L’Equipe’s best team of 2020.

Barcelona ace Lionel Messi has been left out of L’Equipe’s team of 2020 while his rival and Juventus forward Cristiano Ronaldo made it to the list.

Messi suffered a dip in his performance in 2020, which is the key reason for his exclusion from the French outlet’s annual list.

Despite racking up 25 goals and 21 assists last term with a weakened Barca side, the Argentine’s goal tally was lower than Ronaldo, who ended up second in Serie A scoring charts.

The woes have continued for Messi this season as well after racking up only 7 goals in 15 La Liga appearances so far whereas Ronaldo is currently the top scorer of Serie A with 14 goals including the brace in Juve’s recent win against Udinese.

Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski, as expected, was an inevitable selection in the list following a stellar campaign last term and he continues to do so this season as well.

The treble-winner was considered the favourite for Ballon d’Or this year if the event had happened.

Besides, four Premier League stars Kevin De Bruyne, Thiago Alcantara, Virgil van Dijk and Trent-Alexander Arnold are also featured in the list, with three of them belonging to Liverpool, who won the Premier League last.

Alphonso Davies, Joshua Kimmich and Manuel Neuer are other Bayern stars to feature in the list while PSG forward Neymar also made the cut.
