Man City book their place in the Carabao Cup final with a 2-0 win over Man United

Manchester City booked their place in the finals of the English League Cup with a 2-0 win over Manchester United earlier tonight.

Manchester City almost had a rough start to the game when Marcus Rashford’ shot was spilled by Zack Steffen two minutes into the game and the ball ricocheted off John Stones into the Manchester City net. Luckily for them, the flag went up for offside.

Manchester City had a goal disallowed for themselves three minutes later when Ilkay Gundogan guided Phil Foden’ cross into the Manchester United net. However, his effort was ruled out as offside.

Both teams managed we cancel each other out in the first half but Manchester City managed to break the deadlock early on in the second half.

Defender John Stones converted at the far post after Manchester United left him unmarked. Phil Foden found the Manchester City defender with a curling cross at the back post and the ball went in off his thigh on the  50th minute.

Manchester City doubled their advantage on the 83rd minute when Brazilian midfielder Fernandinho send a powerful long-range effort into the bottom left corner of Dean Henderson’s net.

Manchester City have now managed to reach their 4th League Cup final in a row and they were undoubtedly the better team here. They will now look to beat Spurs in the final on the 25th of April.

As for Manchester United, it was their 4th semi-final defeat in a row and it will be interesting to see if the Red Devils can bounce back strongly in their next game.
