Manchester City have completed the signing of Nathan Ake from Bournemouth.

The Dutchman has cost them £40 million with a further £1m in bonuses.

Ake managed to impress in the last few seasons with the Cherries and he has now deservedly secured a big money.

Bournemouth have been relegated after a poor season and Ake deserves to play in the Premier League. It will be interesting to see if he can establish himself as a regular starter under Pep Guardiola now.

Manchester City needed to improve their defence and Ake should prove to be a good signing. The left-sided centre back can play as a left-back as well and he will add depth to the side.

His ability to play out of the back will allow him to fit into Guardiola’s playing style next season.

Speaking to the media after his move, Ake said: “City have been the best side in England over the course of the last decade. Coming here is a dream for me. This is a top side full of world-class players. Everywhere you look in this squad there are big names with international pedigree.

“Pep is a manager admired across the world – what he’s done in the game speaks for itself. The success he’s had is unbelievable and the style of football he plays really appeals to me.

“I know I’m going to have to work hard to get into the side, but that’s what I’m here to do. I’ll do whatever I can to make an impact and help the team win silverware.”

Chelsea had the option to sign the player as well this summer but the Blues passed up the opportunity to bring him back to Stamford Bridge.

It will be interesting to see how this signing affects the futures of Otamendi and John Stones now.
