Chelsea drop points against Aston Villa, Giroud and El Ghazi score from either end

Chelsea 1-0 Norwich Giroud kept Chelsea in Champions League race

Chelsea were held to a 1-1 draw against Aston Villa in the Premier League earlier tonight.

Olivier Giroud scored a vital first-half goal to secure a point for Chelsea.
Meanwhile, Aston Villa are now unbeaten in five League matches and Dean Smith will be very impressed with his team’s performance once again.

Aston Villa have made themselves hard to beat and they continue to improve in their offensive play.

Chelsea made an impressive start to the game and they dominated the possession early on. However, Christian Pulisic failed to make the most of the chances he got.

The Blues winger could have put Chelsea two goals up in the first half but he fired into the side netting and hooked the ball over from close range from his two chances.

Giroud broke the deadlock on 34th minute when he met Ben Chilwell’s cross with a diving header. The Chelsea striker has now scored against Aston Villa in seven straight League matches.

As for Aston Villa, Anwar El Ghazi scored the equaliser when he converted Matty Cash’ cross from 6 yards out. It was his fifth goal in his last five matches for Aston Villa.

Both teams came close to securing the winner but Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn saw his thundering effort come off the crossbar and Ben Chilwell was a fraction wide when he volleyed towards the goal during second-half stoppage time.

Aston Villa are now fifth in the Premier League table with 26 points and Chelsea are behind them on goal difference, having played two matches more.
