Chelsea linked with a move for the Rennes goalkeeper Edouard Mendy

Chelsea have been linked with a move for the Rennes goalkeeper Edouard Mendy.

The 28 year old has been outstanding for the French side in the past year and he would be an upgrade on Kepa.

The Spaniard joined Chelsea with massive expectations but he has been a failure so far. He has cost Chelsea with his error prone displays this past season and Lampard will have to bring in an upgrade if he wants to win the title.

The likes of City and Liverpool have quality keepers like Ederson and Alisson. Kepa is simply not good enough.

It will be interesting to see if the Blues can get a deal for Mendy over the line now.

The 28 year old is likely to be tempted if a Premier League club comes calling with a concrete offer. A move to Chelsea would be a massive step up for him.

The Blues have had the best window in England so far and they have signed Werner, Ziyech and Thiago Silva. Havertz is set to join as well.

Not improving their keeping options would be negligent from Lampard.

According to reports, Chelsea are now in talks with Rennes for Mendy and they expect to sign the player for a fee of £18m this summer.

Mendy is at the peak of his career right now and he could make an immediate impact at Stamford Bridge next season.

After their massive summer outlay, Chelsea will be expecting a title challenge at the very least next year. It remains to be seen how Lampard integrates all the new signings in his lineup now.
