Chelsea, Southampton share points in a thrilling 3-3 draw

Kai Havertz-Chelsea

Chelsea were held to a 3 -3 draw against Southampton in the Premier League earlier today at Stamford Bridge.

Summer signing Timo Werner gave the home side the lead on the 15th minute and the German did well to double his side’s advantage 13 minutes later.

Kai Havertz gave Chelsea the lead on the hour mark and the Blues were headed for all three points.

However Jannik Vestergaard scored deep into injury time to secure a point for the away side.

Southampton will be reasonably pleased with their performance here.

Chelsea were firm favourites heading into the game and they would have expected to pick up all three points.

Frank Lampard will be disappointed with his team’s defensive performance and Chelsea will have to improve at the back if they want to challenge for the Premier League title.

Chelsea have spent a lot of money to improve their attack this summer but they will need to be better organized at the back in order to compete with the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool.

The Blues seem vulnerable at the back and the draw against Southampton leaves them 6th in the table with just eight points.

It will be interesting to see if the Blues can bounce back with a win in their next game. They have the players to put together a winning run.

Frank Lampard will demand a reaction from his players in the next game and it will be interesting to see if his players can step up and deliver.
