Everton 1-0 Southampton: Richarlison goal boosts Toffees’s top-four chances

Everton have picked up a 1-0 win over Southampton in the Premier League earlier tonight.

Brazilian forward Richarlison scored the only goal of the game in the 9th minute and the Toffees defended admirably to hold onto their advantage for the remainder of the game.

Richarlison has now scored in three consecutive Premier League appearances for Everton.

Both teams looked mediocre in attack and they had just one shot on target over the course of the 90 minutes.

Everton defender Michael Keane managed to head the ball into the Southampton net but his goal was overturned for offside after a video assistant referee review.

The likes of Mohammed Salisu and Moussa Djenepo had chances to equalise for Southampton but the best chance of the match fell to Jannik Vestergaard who managed to force a match-winning save from Jordan Pickford in the 90th minute.

Everton will be relieved to have picked up the three points here but it could have easily ended in a draw.

The win takes Everton up to 7th in the Premier League table with 43 points and they are now level on points with cross-town rivals Liverpool.

Meanwhile, Southampton are 14th in the table and they will be hoping to improve in the coming weeks. Southampton have picked up just one point from their last nine matches and Ralph Hasenhettl will be under pressure to turn his team’s form around.

Southampton need to be very careful that they're not dragged into the relegation battle, they've got some massive games coming up, away at Sheffield United and Man City next 2 then home to Brighton and Burnley then away to West Brom. Need to get about 8 points from them. #EVESOU
With 43 points, @Everton have their highest points tally after 25 matches in a #PL season since 2013/14 (45pts) They went on to finish 5th that campaign! #EVESOU
Everton are now just two points off the top four. With a game in hand... #EFC
