Everton set to interview Frank Lampard and Wayne Rooney for the managerial role

Frank Lampard-Chelsea

Everton recently sacked Rafael Benitez after a disappointing run of results in the Premier League. The Toffees are thought to be looking at Wayne Rooney and Frank Lampard as potential replacements.

According to a report from the Telegraph, Everton are set to interview the former Chelsea manager for the vacant managerial position. It remains to be seen whether Lampard can convince them that he is the right man for the job.

The former England international midfielder was sacked by Chelsea last year, but he did a reasonably good job at Stamford Bridge, and he has shown his pedigree with Derby County in the past.

Lampard did well to nurture the young players at Chelsea during his time at the club, and he could have a similar impact at Everton as well.

The Toffees certainly have an impressive pool of young talent at their disposal, and bringing in someone like Lampard who is willing to give youth a chance could be a wise decision.

Furthermore, Lampard has managed in the Premier League before, and he will be aware of the demands and expectations at Goodison Park.

On the other hand, Wayne Rooney is relatively inexperienced as a manager, and he is yet to prove himself at the highest level.

Although the former Manchester United striker has done a commendable job in the championship with Derby County, he does not seem ready to take on the Everton job just yet.

That said, the former Everton striker is a fan favourite at Goodison Park, and his arrival could lift the spirits around the club.

Everton will be expected to finish in the top half this season, and it remains to be seen whether they can turn things around and finish the season strongly.

Benitez was relieved of his duties after 9 defeats in the last 13 Premier League matches, and the new manager will be expected to make an immediate impact.

The likes of Lampard will be determined to prove themselves. His hunger and desire to succeed could be a major bonus for the Toffees if they end up appointing the former Chelsea coach.
