Guardiola insists Foden can grow into a complete player following Liverpool heroics

Phil Foden-Manchester City

Phil Foden put on a stunning display in the 4-1 win over Liverpool at Anfield.

Manchester City were able to break their hoodoo at Anfield after thrashing Liverpool 4-1 last night.

Phil Foden put on an eye-catching display, his bet in Sky Blue colours yet, as he set up Ilkay Gundagon’s second goal and netted a thunderous winning goal.

The Citizens academy star hasn’t been a regular feature for Guardiola’s side but  his importance has grown over the past few weeks and last night’s display against was a testament to it.

Foden couldn’t spark a moment in the first half as he looked slightly out of sorts in the false 9 role. After the break, the English youngster ran riot over the Reds’ defence as he was allowed to operate on the wins.

Man City manager Pep Guardiola weighed in on Foden’s display, insisting that he could become even dangerous when he masters the art of playing in the middle

.

The Spaniard said,

“We and Man City fans are lucky to have a guy from the academy who loves Man City, grew up in our academy supporting and being a fan and a ballboy, and has already become a top, top footballer for us,”

“In the first half we struggled a lot to find him, he was not in the position he should be – that’s why we struggled to find him. When playing in the middle sometimes he has some difficulty and what he has to do and where he has to move.

“Right now he is moving perfectly as a winger and the second and fourth goals were outstanding and phenomenal. He is just 20 years old, he has a huge margin to improve and understand the game a little better.”

Three Lions manager Gareth Southgate was spotted at the stands during the match and he must have taken note of Foden’s display.
