Klopp to rely on Liverpool academy players to bail them out against Leicester

Liverpool take on Leicester City at the weekend and Jurgen Klopp has been forced to call up several academy players in order to cope with the current injury crisis at the club.

The Reds could be without their first-choice back four and it will be interesting to see who comes in to fill the void at the weekend.

Virgil van Dijk has been ruled out for the season and Joe Gomez is set to be sidelined for several months as well. Trent Alexander-Arnold picked up an injury against Manchester City and he is expected to be sidelined for the rest of this month.

Meanwhile, Andy Robertson had a minor niggle while on international duty with Scotland and it will be interesting to see if he is rested for the Leicester City game.

According to reports, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has called up eight academy players to strengthen his injury-ravaged squad.

The likes of Henderson, Fabinho and Thiago are injured in the midfield and Mohammed Salah will miss out as well after testing positive for the coronavirus.

Leicester City have been in impressive form against the top teams and they will be hoping to pull off an upset at Anfield.

Liverpool’s outstanding home record is under serious threat this weekend and it will be interesting to see if they can step up and get the job done.

Youngsters like Neco Williams, Rhys Williams, Nat Phillips, Curtis Jones have been a part of the first team in the recent months and it will be interesting to see if Klopp relies heavily on them to get through this period now. 

Meanwhile, the likes of Billy Koumetio, Jake Cain, Leighton Clarkson, Paul Glatzel, Luis Longstaff, Vitezslav Jaros, Marcelo Pitaluga and Jakub Ojrzynski were called up to train with the first team as well.
