Liverpool 2-1 Tottenham: Firmino’s late winner makes the difference

Roberto Firmino-Liverpool

Liverpool picked up a stunning 2-1 win over Tottenham in the Premier League earlier tonight.

Mohamed Salah’s deflected effort gave the home side the lead on the 26th minute but Tottenham did exceedingly well to get back into the game immediately after when Heung-Min Son scored on the 33rd minute.

The Reds controlled the ball from start to finish and they were rewarded for their efforts late on in the game when Roberto Firmino scored a stunning header on the 90th minute to win the game for Jurgen Klopp’s team.

Liverpool are now unbeaten in 66 matches in the Premier League at Anfield and Jurgen Klopp will be thoroughly delighted with his team’s performance here.

Despite their injury problems Liverpool managed to step up and grind out a win in what could prove to be a defining result in the long run.

Liverpool are now on top of the Premier League with 28 points from 13 matches and Tottenham remain on 25 points in second place.

The Londoners will be disappointed with their finishing tonight and Jose Mourinho will demand a strong reaction from the players next time out.

The likes of Bergwijn and Kane had glorious opportunities to put Tottenham ahead in the second half but they failed to convert from close range and the Londoners have paid the price for their missed chances eventually.

Toby Alderweireld cannot forgive himself either as he was somewhat responsible for Liverpool goals on both the occasions. First, Salah’s strike was deflected and ballooned up, giving Lloris no chance to save, and secondly Firmino forced himself over Alderweireld and Kane to win the vital header at the end.
