Liverpool in a three-way battle with Man United, Bayern for Upamecano

Arsenal interested to sign RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano

The Leipzig centre-back has emerged as a top target for Liverpool.

Liverpool are interested in signing Leipzig centre-back Dayot Upamecano, who is also wanted by Manchester United and Bayern Munich.

According to reports, Liverpool have identified Upamecano as the central defender to solve their defensive crisis.

The Frenchman caught everyone’s attention following his impressive season last term, where Leipzig reached the Champions League semi-finals besides finishing third in Bundesliga.

Upamecano also earned his maiden senior cap with France national team in September’s Nations League game against Sweden.

Jurgen Klopp is in an unprecedented situation as all of his recognized defenders – Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip, Fabinho and Joe Gomez – are sidelined due to injuries.

It has now led Klopp to scour the transfer market earlier than expected and many defenders have already made it to the wishlist of the German manager.

Ozan Kabak is another player preferred by Klopp and Schalke are ready to sell the young Turk for around £20m in January.

Upamecano is tied to a contract until 2023 with Leipzig but his release clause of £38m will be active in the next summer.

Nevertheless, the Reds would face competition from Man Utd and Bayern for the signing of the 22-year-old.

United are looking for defensive reinforcements and even tried to sign Upamecano in the summer transfer window. Upamecano could surely reinforce Manchester United defence.

Meanwhile, Bayern are looking to replace Jerome Boateng with the French defender. David Alaba’s contract situation, is certainly another point of concern for Bundesliga champions.

It will be interesting to see which of the clubs would end up signing the talented centre-back.
