Liverpool keeping tabs on Kylian Mbappe over potential transfer next summer

Thomas Tuchel Kylian Mbappe can start against RB Leipzig

The French World Cup winner has made a transfer request to PSG.

Liverpool are reportedly keeping tabs on PSG ace Kylian Mbappe, who has recently made a transfer request.

Mbappe’s contract runs until the summer of 2023, but he is against the idea of signing an extension.

Liverpool are touted to be one of the destinations for the French youngster, who earlier was effusive about Jurgen Klopp’s style of play.

Klopp also spoke about Mbappe’s links to Anfield last year, saying that it would be difficult to sign a player of Mbappe’s ilk.

‘I don’t see any club, that is how it is. We are involved in the clubs that cannot do it – it is as easy as that.

‘OK, from a sporting point of view, there are not a lot of reasons to not sign him – what a player he is! It is about the money, of course. No chance. Absolutely no chance.’

However, Liverpool will face stern competition from La Liga giants Real Madrid, who are also keen on signing the 21-year-old.

Los Blancos believe that they are the frontrunners in Mbappe’s race as they are reportedly plotting a summer swoop next summer.

PSG are likely to remain strict with their valuation for Mbappe, similar to Borussia Dortmund’s stance with Jadon Sancho.

It will be interesting to see which of European heavyweights would break the bank to sign Mabppe if he leaves Parc des Princes.

Liverpool could be forced to change their transfer policy – relying on smart transfers – if they are to sign the former Monaco man.

Although Real Madrid are said to be having the edge, it remains to be seen whether they can generate funds amidst the current financial crisis.
